The “No Sugar Added” Fruit Cups Will Be Available to All
LAUSD’s 650,000 Students During the 2016 through 2017 School Year
LOS ANGELES – September 8, 2016 -- Nu-Health California and the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) have partnered with the goal of offering healthy food options for students. During the current 2016 through 2017 school year, Nu-Health California’s 100% natural Mandarin Oranges will be offered to all LAUSD students for breakfast and lunch.
Nu-Health California’s fruit-in-fruit-juice cups are a healthy alternative to syrupy fruit cups, apple sauces and sugary drinks. This Kosher, no sugar added fruit cup is unique as it has no colorings, synthetic ingredients, GMOs, preservatives or gluten. Available in 4.5 and 9.0 ounce cups, these on-the-go snacks do not require refrigeration and come in the following flavors: apple, peach, pineapple, mandarin orange and pear.
"We thank LAUSD for its support of our product and mutual goal of offering healthy snacks to our children," said Dmitry Sharin, co-founder of Nu-Health California. “We are very excited to have our tasty Mandarin Orange fruit cups added to LAUSD menus and look forward to offering our product to every school in the nation.”
LAUSD is the second largest school district in the nation and enrolls more than 640,000 students in kindergarten through 12th grade, at over 900 schools and 187 public charter schools. The boundaries spread over 720 square miles and include the mega-city of Los Angeles as well as all or parts of 31 smaller municipalities plus several unincorporated sections of Southern California.
Nu-Health California meets the Food Buying Guide standards for the National School Lunch Program - a federally assisted meal program operating in public, charter, nonprofit, and private schools as well as residential child care institutions. This program provides nutritionally balanced, low-cost or free lunches to children each school day.
In addition, Nu-Health California is in compliance with the Smart Snacks in School regulations. These requirements, published by the USDA, are practical, science-based nutrition standards for snack foods and beverages sold to children. These standards encourage schools to offer healthier snack foods while limiting junk foods.
Founded in 2012 by Dmitry Sharin, Arytom Drey and Mike Muchnik, Nu-Health California currently delivers fruit in fruit juice snacks throughout the U.S. and internationally.
